Make sure your organization becomes compliant and stays compliant with the California Consumer Privacy Act

The California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) was passed into law in 2018 and became effective on January 1, 2020. The intended purpose of this statute is to protect the consumer privacy of California residents and applies to for-profit organizations that meet any of the following tests:

  1. Has annual gross revenues in excess of $25 million, or
  2. Possesses the personal information of 50,000 or more consumers, households, or devices; or
  3. Earns more than half of its annual revenue from selling consumer data.

CCPA has a broad definition of personal data which can include any data that can be linked to an individual or household such as name, mailing address, usernames, IP addresses, email addresses and much more. And, as with many other privacy regulations and statutes, the California Consumer Privacy Act significantly increases exposure to for-profit organizations. CCPA requires that companies protect consumer data by establishing and maintaining a reasonable security program. Non-compliance and data breaches pose massive financial & litigation risk to CCPA-covered entities.

It is essential that CCPA-covered entities establish and maintain compliant CCPA security & privacy programs. Fortunately, this is where nGuard can help.
